A long time passion for collecting diecast models extended to collecting hearses as a result of Bryce starting a career in funeral directing in his hometown of Huntly, firstly with Dean Funeral Services and then purchasing the business in 2004, changing the name to Haven Funeral Services.
This impressive collection was started some five years ago and now numbers in excess of 100 models of all shapes and sizes. The scale models range from tiny HO scale through to an impressive 1/10th scale hand built horse drawn funeral coach. The collection includes hearses from 1904 through to the mid eighties.
All the popular makes are represented like Cadillac, Rolls Royce, Jaguar, Mercedes, Ford, Packard and the list goes on. Many of them are quite collectable and it is getting increasingly more difficult to source new additions to join the fleet.
Bryce has sourced the models from all four corners of the globe with the majority coming from the United States and the UK, but also includes countries like Australia, Singapore, China and France to name a few.
The collection is certainly a great conversation starter with visitors pouring over the many varied and highly detailed replicas, often recounting childhood memories of seeing similar makes and models busy on the roads of the day.
Bryce’s passion for vintage hearse’s has recently even extended to a purchasing a “life sized” 1936 Dodge Ram, coach built hearse that was in service in Northland up until the early sixties. In need of some serious restoration, the goal is to one day soon put it in to service for the business.
One thing is for certain, it’s a collection that brings Bryce, a great deal of enjoyment.
